Common Texting Abbreviations and Acronyms

A plain-language guide to the short forms you'll often see in text messages. Each entry shows what the letters stand for, the common conversational meaning, and a short example. Remember that tone, age, and relationship can change how any abbreviation is understood.

These abbreviations rarely have one single meaning. The same letters can feel warm from a close friend and dismissive from someone else. When in doubt, ask the sender what they meant — or paste the message into Emoji Subtitles for a plain-English interpretation.
